THE WEATHER INSIDE
The Weather Inside is a 5-part original music video series; a deep dive into the depths of jonnychang's mind, told through stunning imagery and poetic lyricism. Each episode builds upon the next to create a fully-realized narrative, exploring themes of identity, mental health, and growing pains through an Asian American lens.

“In a world where we are constantly unseen and unheard, I created The Weather Inside first and foremost to uplift my own people through the re-telling of my lived experiences. Through my music, I hope to make a positive impact on the villages that raised me. It has been difficult, but freeing to document my struggles with anxiety and depression; crises with my own cultural identities; letting go of the past; owning who I am and how I exist; and how I fight for social justice both in work and art, in order to bring peace and health to my communities,”

“We, as Asian Americans, have not been allowed to truthfully participate in the history of American Television. We have been made out to be exotic villains to fear, docile creatures to patronize, and token families to fill network diversity mandates. I wanted to place my brother’s stories in the visual worlds of 1960s network series, 2000s reality competitions, and 2010s prestige television as an act of combatting these harmful depictions. We are inserting ourselves into these environments, dismantling expectations of what an Asian performer can be in this country, and offering up the alternatives that I have always wished for — and wished my parents and their parents had had as they began navigating this country.”
